Trust the process…… but above all trust the people.

Anita & I have those unlimited cards for the cinema, we can go for weeks without using them and then sometimes it seems like we can’t keep up, and thats where we are now.
This Sunday we got to see King Richard, nope, not middle ages swords and stuff but the bio-pic of the Williams sisters or rather more importantly their dad, Richard.
(Don’t worry no direct spoilers, I’m just going to talk about a couple of the themes. Plus I’m assuming you all have a fair idea that they made it)
If you’ve read anything from me before you’ll probably already know I’m a process & KPI guy. For me there is nothing better than clarity of expectation leading to open discussions of not only where we can do better but of course also pin pointing the things that are great.
Richard’s biggest headline is the process he has devised and the dogged nature with which he sticks to every detail, often in the face of many de-railers, not least the environment they live in. For me however there are two overwhelming lessons he had to learn in the film..
1-Trust & Include the stakeholders. Richard’s dogged belief took them a long way but it also made it difficult to accept that there were indeed other stakeholders also looking to help Venus & Serena to greatness. Richard almost had to be forced to recognise the value of people like Oracene (their mother) and Rick Macci (coach) and once he did not only did it help achieve their aims but it took some of the personal weight from Richard himself.
2-Trust the do-er. Perhaps my biggest take away was what I saw as the key moment in the film. Richard had to finally trust Venus to take a step and do the doing, even if that meant a risk of failure. Almost immediately that set off a lightbulb in Venus which we all got to see for many years after. The job of a leader, coach or mentor is vital but no matter what you do there is a point where you’ve got to just trust the person and let the do-er do.
Like I’ll always say sales in particular is a process and those who align it well will always have an advantage but without placing trust in the people it comes to nothing.
This is definitely a film worth seeing and yeah I wont lie, almost got emotional a couple of times but I suppose thats what happens when you’re a dad.
And just like that….
Kellie, my youngest posted this image on facebook, she gives me a lot to be proud about.

Holly Humberstone - Scarlett
Holly first came to my attention early in the first lockdown, Overkill being the first tune that caught me. Of course she had that weird thing where here first year of success was while she couldn’t do any appearances or tour. Well things are starting to open up again and Holy is just about the release her second project - The walls are way too thin on November 12th.
It includes this track and the also pretty cool “Don’t leave just yet”, co-written with Matt Healy from The 1975.
